On October 22, 2020, President Trump, and former Vice President Joe Bidden had there final presidential debate which was more laid back on Thursday. Both sides had opposite views on major topics in society to day like the coronavirus pandemic and different ways to save the economy, health care system, fighting climate change, and revamping the immigration system. The debate only lasted an hour and thirty minutes but was quite dramatic both sides having conflicting ideas.
Throughout the debate President Trump consistently badgered Biden to what it seemed like trying to destroy his reputation and shaping it to his advantage. He believes that Covid-19 is becoming less and less dangerous in America by the day. However he fails to give proper evidence of this and with his recent exposure to covid his statement doesn't seem convincing. He also used this particular phrase "all talk no action" throughout the debate which was quite childish but in his eyes true. He sees himself different from Bidden in that when he says hes going to do something for the better of the country he does it. Although during this debate it seemed like President Trump took most of the time badgering all of Bidden's comments then making a better case which supported his ideas.
On the other hand Bidden seemed quite calm and unphased by Mr. Trumps trash talk as he directly answered the questions asked of him. His idea was more promising as he seemed quite confident in his plans that he pitched to us viewers that night. He made no errors that would throw off his supporters or viewers that night. In fact he pounced on trumps constant contradicting statements on many of the topics especially about the coronavirus. For example when the president said “we’re learning to live with” the coronavirus, Mr. Biden pounced. “We’re learning to die with it,” he said. This and his more convincing speech makes Trumps speech quite shacking having less of a focus and tie to the people emotions compared to Bidden's.
Although there is still more Bidden is proving time and time again that he may come out as the winner of the debates and our new president. President Trump still has a chance but he needs to stay on target with his pitch to us viewers. Despite that this debate was quite fun and interesting to watch and leaves me thinking who can be our next president of the United States
Question:
What do you think President Trump could do to get back in the debate in his speeches?
How do you feel about covid-19, do you believe its slowly going away or is it getting worse causing more people to die?

It's not really a matter of opinion on whether the situation with covid is getting better or worsening. It's clear by looking at data that more and more people are being infected each day and despite efforts to decrease this, things are still getting worse. In some places in the country people have managed to slow but not completely stop the spread of covid and it would probably be a good idea to follow the lead of these places. With the winter and the flu season coming up it is more important than ever that we gain control of the situation because it is unknown if things will continue as they have been or grow exponentially worse when winter comes.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you that the facts from which the data shows that more people by the day are getting sick and that Trumps statement was very careless.
DeleteI don't think Trump can do much to sway the voters at this point. I think most people got a bad impression of Trump from the first presidential debate because of how he keeps interrupting. In my opinion the way for Trump to win the debates is to let Biden talk and perhaps he will trip himself up. And as of covid-19, I think Trump handled the situation horribly. Underestimating the virus and not believing the words of scientists is not a good idea when the nation is facing a pandemic. Additional Obama is back and attending campaign trails, and said that he left with a pandemic playbook, that would tell the White House what to do before the virus even arrive in the U.S.. It heartbreaking when you think about a loved one gone missing, when it could've been prevented. I do not think the virus will just magically disappear and I hope for the best for the scientists working day and night on a vaccine to save humanity.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with what your saying Zeke about peoples bad impression on Trump leaves him with less ways to persuade voters. Also with the covid-19 situation I feel the same way in that his impulsive behavior and, lack of understanding in his remarks is quite horrible and makes him seem unlikeable for president.
DeleteI agree with Zeke that realistically, there's not much Trump can do to win more support. However, to fix his debate performance, there are a few things I think he could theoretically do that would help, even if I am almost certain he would never do them. Firstly, Trump could come out with an actual plan for how he will repeal and replace Obamacare and protect people with pre-existing conditions. Also, he could release his tax returns. Biden made a good point that if Trump had nothing to hide, he would have released them by now. Trump claims he pays millions of dollars in taxes despite having any evidence. Another thing would be to acknowledge that COVID-19 is a serious problem that is not going away now and will not go away on its own. Denying its severity comes off as really insensitive to everyone who has lost a loved one or are suffering financially, to essential workers who are risking their lives, and to everyone who has had to make sacrifices during this pandemic.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Zeke and Ella that Trump really cannot do much else to sway voters. Most people have already decided who they are voting for by this point and everyone knows where Biden and Trump stand. As for the question about coronavirus, I believe that it is getting worse but we as a nation and as the world have significantly slowed down its rate of infection. However, it is important that people keep following precautions until we get a vaccine, otherwise the virus will start spreading again at rates we saw earlier this year. I think it is ridiculous that our President vouches for the reopening of the country and talks about how only 1% of the people who get the virus are dying because those 1% of lives still matter. He then goes further to imply that children seem to be "immune" to it and that is why schools should reopen. Overall, Trump and Pence have not handled this virus to the best of the nation's ability and are the reason so many people are dying.
ReplyDeletePresident Trump is incapable of doing anything to get back in the debate in his speeches. He blames everyone but himself for the harm he’s done to this country. A few days after the debate, CBS released footage of Trump walking out of his 60 Minutes interview with Lesley Stahl. In the interview, Trump says he does not want “tough questions,” gets angry at Stahl, and refuses to take responsibility for his actions as President. COVID-19 is continuing to get worse, with cases up in 40 states and the death toll rising, contradicting Trump’s claim that we’ve done “a great job with COVID.” No matter how many times Trump says we’re “doing a very, very good job” or “we have turned the corner,” the facts show that COVID-19 is getting worse. I can only hope that more Republicans will vote for Biden in this election.
